Short Information

Medienhaus Wien (MHW) GesmbH (Ltd. – Private Limited Company) is an organisation for research and further education and was founded in 2005 by Andy Kaltenbrunner, Astrid Zimmermann, Daniela Kraus, Matthias Karmasin and Alfred J. Noll.
Medienhaus Wien stands for:
- Qualification
- Praxis-orientated Media Research
- Expertise and Strategy Development

Research

Especially in economically and structurally challenging times or even times of crises profound analysis can help to exploit qualitative and innovative potentials.
Main aim of our academic studies and projects is to create sound decision basis for media, business and politics. Examples are studies on the working methods and working situations of Austrian journalists (The Journalist Report and The Journalist Report II), studies on media self-control and on newsroom convergence.

Qualification

One of our main working areas is the development and organisation of education and further education and development programs in the media sector.
We organise conferences, workshops, seminars and panel discussions on current topics.
For Media Houses we are offering custom-made concept development and implementation of in-house training programs.
Members of our team are available for lectures and inputs /comments on media topics.

Expertise and Strategy Development

Research competence, infrastructure and qualification of employees are internal success factors for the positive development of the media sector. They are as well a crucial decision factor for the selection of locations.
Therefore Medienhaus Wien plans and accompanies initiatives for the strengthening of locations, for instance regarding questions of media education.
Crucial for our work is the view over the border – international benchmarking and description of best practice examples are part of our key work areas. To achieve this we work within an international partner network.

Our network

Crucial for our work is the view over the border – international benchmarking and description of best practice examples are part of our key work areas. To achieve this we work within an international partner network (e.g. TU Dortmund, University Mannheim, University Miguel Hernandez Elche, EJO, MAZ or Akademie für Publizistik Hamburg).

Our projects

Our current projects are concerned with international media convergence, press subsidies, media accountability in Europe, comparative journalism research or the future of journalism. Furthermore Medienhaus Wien is a co-organiser of the “Hedy Lamarr Lectures 2010” and the “Journalism 2020” conference.
